Central Coast Mariners vs Perth Glory at Central Coast Stadium
Result: Mariners 1 – Perth 1
So Near Yet So Far
On a perfect late afternoon for Football, the Mariners came within two minutes of three points. Perth Glory kept their nerve and frustrated the home side with an equalizing goal two minutes from the final whistle. The crowd’s collective exasperation could be heard in that moment as delight turned to disappointment.
There were several bright spots for the boys in Yellow. Lewis Miller worked hard in defence and his forward forays but unfortunately many balls flew across the opposing goal area. Just one little touch was needed to alter the score board.
Kye Rowles was a tower of strength in central defence but still Mark Birighitti had to be at his best to thwart the Purple attackers.
Jason Cummings was starting to have influence on proceedings halfway through the second half. A first time power shot tested the Perth goalie in the 54th minute.
It was no surprise three minutes later when some excellent football produced the opening goal of the game. It was Cummings who had the fans off their seats. Lead up work from the right flank by Miller, found Urena who lobbed the ball into the danger area for the Scotsman to fire home expertly.
Yet another draw, one point gained but two points lost.
