Entertaining Contest in Gosford
A game of fluctuating fortunes eventually ended up all square in Gosford between the Mariners and Macarthur Bulls on last Thursday. The late kick off affected the crowd numbers but those who saw the contest live were well rewarded.
The Mariners came out all guns blazing but after the initial burst the Bulls swooped. A long-range powerful shot in the 23rd minute stunned the home faithful as the visitors took the lead. Minutes later a mistimed tackle just outside the box resulted in the Rams second as former Mariner, Daniel de Silva arrowed the ball into the mix for one of his team to poke it home.
The Yellow pressed for an equaliser which came in the 38th. It was a combined team effort which Marcos Urena fired towards the goal. A wicked deflection deceived the goalie. This made the different just one going into half-time.
With coach Monty bringing Mueller on at half-time and whatever was said at half time seemed to make a difference. Multiple chances from Cummings and Mueller presented real chances that could have levelled the game ealy in the second half.
The game continued in the see-sawing fashion. Until Cummings was bundled over inside the penalty box with a real chance of scoring. Originally ruled “no penalty”, a VAR review awarded the penalty which the skipper, Ollie Bozanic dispatched to even up the scores.
With seven minutes to go another penalty came the Mariners way for a trip on Urena. This time Brazilian, Moresche sent the custodian the wrong way to give the Mariners the lead 3-2.
However, this was not to be the end of scoring. It took a goal-of–the-season contender in the dying seconds from Macarthur for the game to finish all square.
