Central Coast Mariners vs Western Sydney Wanderers at Central Coast Stadium

Mariners send Western Sydney wandering home

On a very warm afternoon, the Mariners overcame the conditions and the visitors by 2 goals to nil to move up to nine points and fourth position on the Isuzu Ute A-League ladder.

This contest was truly a ‘game of two halves.’ The first 45 was a stalemate with both defences keeping their opposition strikers goalless. Marco Urena found himself in scoring positions but was constantly wide of the target. In fact both goalies had little to do. The half was extended because of holding two drinks breaks.

The teams entering the dressing rooms at half-time with the score at 0-0.

In the 59th minute, the ever lively and skillful Joshua Nisbet left the red and black raiders wandering where he had gone as he took on and beat attempts to dispossess him. He fed the marauding Lewis Miller out on the right. Just like last week the right sided defender hit a powerful ball into the goal area where Cy Goddard was able to ram the ball home for his first goal for the Yellow.

Nicolai Muller and Manyluak Aguek made their Mariners debuts late in the contest with the inclusion of Muller making an immediate impact.

The cream on the cake came in the final minute of time added on as skipper Ollie Bozanic fired directly home a free kick on the edge of the box to give the Yellow their second consecutive victory.
