Macarthur FC vs Central Coast Mariners at BlueBet Stadium Penrith
Result: Macarthur 1 - Mariners 0
Mariners Dominate but Go Unrewarded
This was a game of goalkeepers. Shortly after kick off, the Mariners lost stand-in custodian Sozer who was called in to replace suspended Mark Birighitti. Fortunately there was a third goalie on hand in 17 year old Lawrence Caruso who had to take up the gloves.
Despite our Mariners having most of the attempts on goal, it was the Rams who went ahead on the stroke of half time. A scramble in the area provided a shooting opportunity which took a deflection that sent our debutant goalie the wrong way.
In the second half, Mariners midfielder Harrison (Harry) Steele continued his strong first half performance with Kye Rowles putting in another reliable effort in defence.
Unfortunately for the Mariners the Macarthur shot stopper did just that ‘stopped shots.’ A variety of Mariners players tried their luck from all around the opposition target to no avail. Kito in Macarthur’s goal threw himself one way and another to demoralise the Mariners players and the travelling supporters. There was just no way past his herculean performance.
